Some say it’s the name of a Spanish sailor who, centuries ago, traversed Trinity Bay. Others believe it comes from a species of cactus found in the Caribbean. While others claim that Dildo is Portuguese for two islands, referring to the two islands on opposite sides of Dildo island. We support the belief that Dildo was the name given to curiously shaped wooden pegs which were used to lock the oars in place in a Dory.
